What kind of magic is this?

Sunlight is converted into energy by solar panels. Solar panels are made up of smaller cells called photovoltaic cells, and these ‘photovoltaic’ cells can convert sunlight into electrical energy in the form of direct current (DC). Unfortunately, this isn’t very useful for most household applications, as everything in your home runs on alternating current (AC). Therefore, DC needs to be ‘inverted’ to AC before it can be used, which is done by the grid-tie inverter. Once the inverter converts the electricity from DC to AC, the energy produced will flow into your electrical network and appliances (such as your lights, washing machine, fridge, air conditioning, microwave, television, etc.).
